Taste of winter

Last week ended much like the previous days, wet. Thursday and Friday brought more heavy rain, falling on top of saturated ground caused more issues. Lots of standing water and in some areas we are starting to see some turf damage due to the weather.
These areas are going to need some work once the ground dries out. On the derwent holes the water is still rising up on the golf course. It's slowly creeping towards the 22nd green. The last time it was as high as that was 2000. It's still a little off but another week and it will be covered.
View from the 21st fairway Last Friday.
Today.
The greens on the rest of the course are slowly firming up. The 12th, the only one drained is dry and firm.
We started to hand cut them today as there is a small window of dry, frost free weather. We don't often have to use the hand mower on the greens on the course but we need to get them cut as there is quite a lot of growth. After this cold snap growth should slow.
Matty doing a great job with the hand mower. Current height of cut is 5mm, however with soft surfaces it more like 4.5mm actual height of cut.
Another 6 trees have been planted on the new 20th hole. These were taken from off the course.
The ditches that have been cleared are now flowing well, lots of water coming out from drainage channels across the course.
We also have an excavator which we are using to change the entrance into the short game practice area. We were concern about the safety of golfers and security of the facility. So a fence is being erected around the east side of our building and we are transplanting some shrubs from further down the edge if the short game area to finish the edge of the car park. The new entrance way will stop golfers from being near the machinery which is constantly moving around the building. Signage will be put up to notify golfers of the new entrance.
We have also tidied the path to the 19th tee, we have to finish the second entrance to the practice ground and stone this.
