We continued with the 6th green today, finishing removing the sub soil to insure correct fall to the soak away, with a final check with the laser level before the pipe is laid.
The pipe is then laid over a thin layer of pea gravel to protect it from ingress of soil from the bottom of the trench.
A gravel layer was added to the trench to cover the pipe, 5-10mm gravel was used to fill the trench up to 300mm from the surface. 300mm is to ensure we have good root depth especially on the green to prevent drying out of the drain in summer.
Once compacted the root zone is added in 2 stages, again compacted between each to minimise settlement.
The top few inches of original root zone is then added to the top of the added root zone which will be mixed together to aid recovery. Tomorrow we will try and finish this job and the 2 holes currently closed will be reopened.
Other jobs today were to spray the greens with sulphate of iron, the tees were done yesterday. Strimming trees, blowing and collecting leaves and moving the holes.
